What else Floats?

Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.

Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us.
Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
Peasant 1: Burn them.
Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches?
Peasant 1: More witches.
Peasant 2: Wood.
Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn?
Peasant 3: ...because they're made of... wood?
Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her.
Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone?
Peasant 1: Oh yeah.
Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water?
Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!
Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water?
Peasant 1: Bread.
Peasant 2: Apples.
Peasant 3: Very small rocks.
Peasant 1: Cider.
Peasant 2: Gravy.
Peasant 3: Cherries.
Peasant 1: Mud.
Peasant 2: Churches.
Peasant 3: Lead! Lead!
King Arthur: A Duck.
Sir Bedevere: ...Exactly. So, logically...
Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.
Sir Bedevere: And therefore...
Peasant 2: ...A witch!

Okay, so I haven't actually seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail all the way through, but it's the one movie that my family quotes, and this is the one that I usually quote.  And it is so fitting for today's post.

So what else floats, well according to this stone does not float, but guess what does float, CONCRETE! Yup, you read that right, concrete floats, and I can prove it.  I am part of a team that made a concrete canoe.  Yup, and we raced it.

That's me and my teammates winning First Place in Women's Slalom/Endurance!

It was pretty amazing and so much fun! For the the last two semester we have been working on mix designs, constructing, finishing this beautiful canoe. And it totally paid off. Regionals was so much fun, and we worked hard and so now we are going to Nationals! Oh my, so excited.  And what's way exciting about this is that I actually won an endurance race. I'm not the most athletic person so this was quite exciting. First place too!

Well, I feel like sometimes this blog get off my original idea of something to delight in every day, so I'm going to try and get back to that.

What can I delight in from floating concrete.  Teamwork. That's really what it's all about. There's no way just one person could win a race, or let alone make a concrete canoe.  We all had to work together.  Some days it was hard work and I wondered what I had gotten myself into. But in the end, it was worth it.  That applies to multiple areas in our lives.  Things get tough and we wonder, "Why am I putting myself through this, and will it all be worth it in the end?" If you are living righteously and on the path then the answer is truly YES! My grandpa has a quote on his wall with a picture of Jesus Christ that reads "I never said it would be easy, but it would be worth it." (sorry paraphrased a little)

That's applicable to life in general.  Something needs to be hard to be worth it.  How can you know how sweet something is, if you haven't felt the bitter?  How can you enjoy the sunshine more fully if you haven't dealt with the freezing cold?  How can you know what true joy is in life if you haven't experienced pain and sorrow?  You really can't.

In the Book of Mormon in 2 Nephi 2:11-12 it reads

11For it must needs be, that there is an aopposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.

12Wherefore, it must needs have been created for a thing of naught; wherefore there would have been no apurpose in the end of its creation. Wherefore, this thing must needs destroy the wisdom of God and his eternal purposes, and also the power, and the mercy, and the bjustice of God.

Lehi was right on the spot.
(PS The whole chapter is great, if you have the chance you should read it here)
Life was not meant to be easy, and by no means is it. But if we live righteously and strive to do our best, we will come okay, in one piece, ready to take on the next storm that we must pass through.
"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain."
I know that I am not the best at this, I definitely have some more learning to do, and luckily I know that I have many years of opportunities ahead of me to learn all this.  We should all delight in the knowledge that we are able to be on the Earth and learn and experience while we are here; whether they be good or bad, because in the end, the good outweighs the bad.
It's funny the path that posts take.  I hope that we can all delight in something today, and realize that teamwork and endurance will bring us through. Work with others, and lean on them, especially on Christ our Savior, and endure to the end, and you will experience much joy in your life.
