Day #7

Green beans. Another late post to be updated tomorrow.

Update: Sorry. Didn't get to this last night. But here's the update on the green beans. I have searched high and low for a green bean recipe to use. Finally found one that looked good and I had most of the ingredients.  This one did call for shallots but I used a white sweet onion instead. And I was brave with this recipe. Used it while having some friends over for dinner. Maybe not the smartest idea to use them as guinea pigs. But I did warn them and they said they were good. They didn't cook quite as thoroughly while steaming, but Matt said they were just like restaurant beans.  I'll definitely have to try them again, and maybe use our streamer instead of a pot on the stove. I found the recipe in Kitchen Daily, the Food and Wine section from the Huffington Post. The recipe is below the picture. ENJOY!

Sweet-and-Sour Green Beans

Ingredients

Directions

  • 1. Place the green beans in a steamer basket set over a large saucepan of boiling waterSteam until bright green and crisp-tender, about 5 minutes.
  • 2. In a medium skillet, heat the oil. Add the shallot and cook over high heat, stirring, until softened, about 2 minutes. Add the vinegar and sugar; stir to dissolve the sugar. Remove from the heat and add the beans. Season with salt and pepper, toss well and serve.
